Frontpage About About

The APQP4Wind project and the manual is an initiative started by the Danish Wind Industry Association and associated members due to a common wish to simplify and strengthen the entire quality planning and product release process.

With global representation in the steering committee (Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, KK Wind Solutions and LM Wind Power) APQP4Wind is offering training and best practices on how to apply the manual and execute the expectations described in the manual. Currently, the steering committee is developing the industry-specific quality assurance standard, which will ultimately be rolled out in both the Danish and international wind industry.

To ensure that manufacturers and suppliers speak the same language when it comes to quality assurance, the standards will be supported by a training concept that ensures uniform application of the tool. The training effort is meant to substitute training given on a more random basis.

The simple and transparent structure of APQP4Wind offers a common platform for the entire wind industry on a global basis that enables the users to minimize the cost of training and education. Therefore, the project will also contribute to maturing the entire sub supplier base in the Danish wind industry’s through training in methods and processes that create more efficient workflows.

In 2008, 14 suppliers and the Danish Wind Industry Association decided to start a network named MidtVind. Within MidtVind a QA network (in Danish) group was developed which regularly organized meetings to develop and help the other companies in the network across the value chain. But to continue this positive trend, DWIA decided to facilitate a new network in which also wind turbine manufacturers and utilities could participate on equal footing with the suppliers.

In February 2014, the first meeting of the new QA network took place. Siemens Gamesa (formerly Siemens Wind Power) and Vestas participated with several of their suppliers. This was the very beginning of QA cooperation between manufacturers, utilities and suppliers. The idea of the APQP project was born. Other suppliers started to participate in the network. The APQP project, a great idea but lacking funds, was the start-up of the steering committee APQP4Wind consisting of KK Wind Solutions, LM Wind Power, Siemens Gamese (formerly Siemens Wind Power) and Vestas.

With the help and support from DWIA and funding from the Danish Industry Foundation, the APQP4Wind project will run from 2015 to 2018. The project was now ready to begin with cooperation between strong and experienced players in the industry like Siemens Gamese (formerly Siemens Wind Power), Vestas Wind Systems, LM Wind Power, KK Wind Solutions, DONG, Vattenfall and over 30 others supplier from the Danish wind supply chain. The APQP4Wind was born and ready to start.
